The closest beach to us is Pohoiki. Pohoiki is also the only boat ramp on this side of the island South of Hilo. The boat ramp doubles as surf access and “keiki” swimming hole. This morning we hiked out of the Pohoiki parking lot and headed South along the coast. A short distance in nature produced a beautiful geothermal jacuzzi. The hike turned rugged, walking on lava rocks and ducking under tree branches. A large coconut grove supplied several brown coconuts which we gathered and hiked out.
Back at the boat ramp, Hope and Blaze went for a swim while Braun and I watched the surfers and met a few as they got out of the water. The drive home up enchanted Pohoiki road under the shade of the ancient Mango trees was special as always. I stopped and gathered about a dozen Mangos, it is late in the season but they are still dropping good fruit. On the homefront Mangos and Coconut for breakfast! Aloha.
